All True
TIRH and I went to see the B. Heroes last night. I feel awful that we left after their set, but TIRH was tired and I was glad to get home a little early anyway. I feel guilty whenever I leave shows early, which is not often. It started at 10:00, though. That’s just too late for a show to start for anyone with a day job (or two). The B. Heroes are such a fun band to watch. I won’t describe them in all the obvious ways that people describe this band. I really don’t know how else to describe them except that they are like Eva Marie Saint in On the Waterfront.
The Winterpills sounded very nice from outside. Alas, I didn’t get to hear any School for the Dead (not that I’ll never ever have a chance again, right?).
Since I last wrote there have been several developments:
1) I have been told by my landlord that “Indoor cats are fine, but we don’t like outdoor cats.” Molly was enjoying the outdoors until his declaration on Sunday. Incidentally, the landlord told me the news by yelling it into my living room window. Nice touch.
2) I saw a very interesting scene on my way home from work yesterday; as I drove north on Main Street in Holyoke, I saw a parade of people on the sidewalk. This ‘parade’ was about four persons deep and nearly a block long. What was distinct about this group was that they were very white and very smiley. As I approached, in front of the group was Mayor Sullivan pointing out a new business, Marketplace (El Mercado?). Applause erupted from the parade of white people.
3) I had a dream last night that Miles the cat drove my car onto our lawn and hit the big tree in our front yard.
4) On Wednesday, I dropped off DVDs at Pleasant Street Video in Northampton. On my way back to my car, I noticed the car parked in front of me was sort of drifting to the other side of the one-way street. I wondered what this person was doing and then noticed that the driver’s seat was empty; there was no one actually driving the car. The car bounced back about a foot when it hit the curb, then drifted back into the curb and bounced back again (kind of like if you were to bounce a ball - its bounce decreases incrementally if you were to bounce it away from you). I walked back into the video store to ask if anyone owned this particular make and model of car. The car’s owner identified himself immediately. I explained what happened to the owner who said rather amusedly, “Oh, I did it again!” Not quite the response I was expecting. As we ran out the front door, there was a group of young men (I think they were some of those skateboarders who have set up a skate park in the Thornes parking lot) who had just pushed the car back into its parking spot only to watch it roll back into the curb again. The best part was that a minivan was trying to take the guy’s parking spot, but he explained to the minivan driver that it was his parking spot, he just had had a little problem where he had forgotten to put the emergency brake on and his car had kind of drifted from its parking spot. But it was still his spot. Despite the fact that I could have easily been annoyed with this guy, I ended up liking him for his chutzpah.
